Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
At our school, students engage in purposeful learning every day. Literacy is the focus of the morning session, building reading, writing, and communication skills. Mathematics is taught in the middle session, developing problem-solving abilities and number sense. In the afternoon, students explore the other Key Learning Areas (KLAs), including science, technology, history, geography, creative arts, and personal development. This structured daily routine ensures students receive balanced, consistent learning across all areas of the curriculum.
Teachers collaborate to develop explicit and engaging lessons in a learning environment that is caring and focused on the needs of every student. This approach allows students to connect with their teachers, feel supported, and feel valued in their learning, helping them thrive both academically and personally.
Science is taught as RFF at our school and is a highlight of every students' week; they visit the lab to explore how physical forces work and how living things function through hands-on investigations. These engaging lessons spark curiosity, encourage questioning, and help students develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Our school offers a variety of extra-curricular interest groups, including Crochet Club, Chess Club, Hobbie Hob, and Gardening Group. These programs give students the opportunity to explore different hobbies, develop new skills, and engage with peers who share similar interests. By participating in these activities, students can pursue their passions, build confidence, and enjoy a well-rounded learning experience beyond the classroom. These programs also allow our students to enter into the Hawkesbury Show.
Every student has the opportunity to participate in our school carnivals, with an impressive 95% of students in Years 3–6 taking part in the swimming carnival. This high level of involvement reflects our commitment to inclusive, engaging, and active experiences that encourage all students to challenge themselves, build confidence, and enjoy the excitement of school sport.
Our school provides families with many opportunities to engage in learning and celebrate with the school community throughout the year. Events such as Grandparents’ Day, the Easter Hat Parade, and the Book Fair are held biannually, while our Mothers’ and Fathers’ Breakfasts are always a highlight. Parents and caregivers are also encouraged to support learning by helping in classrooms and assisting at a variety of school events, fostering strong connections between home and school.
Wilberforce Public School provides a wide range of extension and enrichment opportunities to ensure all students are challenged and engaged. These include the Australian Mathematics Competition through the Australian Maths Trust, Multicultural Public Speaking, the K–6 Public Speaking Competition, Young Writers, and our innovative, self-directed INGENIUM program. These programs encourage creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning, helping students reach their full potential and explore their individual talents.
Our performing arts program provides students with a wide range of opportunities to develop creativity, confidence, and expression. Through drum group, recorder, choir, and dance, students explore their talents and perform for both school and community audiences. Taught and choregraphed by our highly committed teachers, these experiences encourage teamwork, build self-esteem, and celebrate each student’s unique abilities while fostering a lifelong love of the arts.
To say we love sport is an understatement. Our school offers students pathways to participate in high-level sporting activities while also fostering a love of movement and enjoyment in a wide range of sports. We focus on teaching fundamental movement skills, ensuring students build a strong foundation for all physical activity. Students have the opportunity to try multiple different sports, which has inspired many, who had never played a particular game, to take it up on the weekend and continue pursuing their interests beyond school.
Our school holds a variety of fortnightly assemblies and a termly Gold Assembly to celebrate student achievements and successes. These gatherings recognise effort, growth, and accomplishments across all areas of school life. We also host special assemblies to commemorate important occasions, such as ANZAC Day, helping students understand and reflect on significant events while fostering a sense of community and respect.
We really appreciate it and feel we have ‘fallen on our feet’ with the wonderful school — a parent of Wilberforce Public School
